The year 2016 marked the 20th year in ministry and mission for Still Waters Church. It was a year filled with celebration and sharing of "Meaningful Moments" along the way. We are proud of our history and celebrate each new year as we grow as a community of faith!
On Sunday, September 25th, 2016, we celebrated our 20th anniversary. We all worshiped together during a single outdoor service under the "Big Top". Rev. Lori Lossie, Senior Pastor, led this special service, supported by Rev. Renae Dymond, Associate Pastor; Andrew Jones, Director of Family Ministries; and our special guest pastors, including:
- Rev. Deborah Thompson, District Superintendent
- Rev. Dan Schwerin, Founding Pastor (1996-2002)
- Rev. Dr. Matt Hadley (via video), Lead Pastor (2002-2016)
- Rev. Rebekah Schmidt, Deacon (2008-2013)
- Rev. Jeff Radley, Associate Pastor (2009-2013)
Rev. Deborah Thompson shared greetings from Bishop Hee-Soo Jung, who was traveling in Korea at the time of our celebration. The Pastors shared a message of "The Ripple Effect", starting with the seeds of planting our church, it's growth and outreach, and dreams for the future, reminding us all that it is by God's hand that we are here. The Still Waters Music Ministry included the Still Waters Band, Singers and the Children's Choir. Musical presentations included, among others, the first song ever played at Still Waters, "Shine Jesus Shine", and "Sanctuary", which has become our unofficial anthem.
Following worship we shared a time for fellowship and fun, with videos, a photo timeline and picture album, balloon creations for the children, and refreshments for all.
In 1996, the United Methodist Conference wanted to bring a refreshing new church to the growing Jackson community. This church would create opportunities for adults and children to experience personally the meaning and fulfillment Christ brings and equip them to share that with others. Thus, in September of 1996, Still Waters Church was born with Rev. Dan Schwerin as pastor.
Our first worship services were held at Jackson Elementary and our average attendance was 40 people. Each week we set up chairs, welcomed guests and shared Christ's message. It was an exciting time, trying to build something out of nothing. But we knew that Jesus builds His church, so we stopped watching the door and focused on providing our guests and new members a meaningful way to celebrate our shared faith.
By 1997 our attendance grew to 80 souls and by 1999 we averaged 130 members and purchased 10 acres of land from the Slinger School Board to build a church!
We broke ground on April 30th, 2000 and held our first worship service in the new building on Christmas Eve. In 2005, we added an education wing.
In 2002, Rev. Dan Schwerin went on to become District Superintendent and Rev. Matthew Hadley was appointed as our new pastor. Over the course of the next ten years we added staff to accommodate our growing needs, as well as many new groups and new members.
After 14 years of ministry at Still Waters, Rev. Dr. Matt Hadley was called to a new appointment and we welcomed Rev. Lori Lossie as our new Senior Pastor in 2016.
Today we have over 600 members and average around 400 for worship each weekend.
