Service the community groups

Mission is a very important part of Stillwaters.

  • Possibility for co-sponsoring an afghan family

As many of you know, thousands of Afghan people were evacuated from their country in an emergency situation earlier this year, and many were sent to the United States, including many thousands sent to Fort McCoy in Wisconsin.  Earlier this year, you collected clothing and supplies for them.  Thank you!  Now they are in the difficult situation of being relocated into communities all around our country.  We have learned that Lutheran Social Services (LSS) is looking for churches or organizations to co-sponsor families from Afghanistan who were uprooted during the recent crisis.  Co-sponsoring involves our church walking alongside a family as they relocate to our area, helping them get acclimated to their new home.  There are a few families that have already been relocated to West Bend.  We learned that LSS has a zoom call every Tuesday evening at 6:30 for churches/organizations who are interested in learning about the possibility of co-sponsoring a family.  This week Robin Jasinski and I attended the zoom meeting on Tuesday to listen to the details.  In order to co-sponsor a family, we would have to have significant number of folks from our Still Waters Church interested in helping in some way.  Each person would have their own level of involvement.  For example, maybe you’d be willing to do some grocery shopping, or helping to find an apartment, or helping to furnish an apartment, or helping to support financially, and the list goes on.  We’d like to gauge the interest of Still Waters to participate in something like this.  We would walk with this family for 6 months to a year.  Robin is willing to co-lead our Still Waters initiative, but would like someone with organizational gifts to help!

Invitation to Two Meetings- an LSS Information Meeting

and a Still Waters Discernment Meeting

LSS Information Meeting If co-sponsoring an Afghan family’s relocation is something you might be interested in learning more about, we invite you to attend a ZOOM LSS Information Session on Tuesday Jan. 25 OR Tuesday, Feb. 1 at 6:30 p.m.   These meetings are hosted by LSS.  All individuals who participate in this ministry will be required eventually to attend one of these information sessions (that happen every Tuesday).  Please indicate on the our website or Connection Card your interest, and we will forward you the zoom link.

    Still Waters Discernment Meeting

Then, Still Waters will hold a zoom meeting on Wednesday, Feb 2, at 6:30 p.m. to gather as our church community to discuss the possibilities.   It would be great if, when you attend the Feb 2 meeting, you had also attended one of the above LSS meetings.  Again, indicate on the Connection Card or website if you can attend the Feb 2 Still Waters meeting, and we will send you a zoom link for that.  Thanks, church, for your part in prayerful discernment as we continue to seek possibilities for living out our mission!

Please feel free to contact Pastor Loriemail  or Robin Jasinski email with questions.  Admittedly, there are more questions than answers at this point, as we learn about this possibility.

  • safe families

Safe Families for Children is a movement fueled by compassion and faith to keep children safe and families intact as families go through crisis. Through Host Families, Family Friends, and Family Coaches, they temporarily host children and provide a network of support while parents get back on their feet. It is an honor to surround Moms and Dads with a community of families who believe in them and to be there for them when families need us most.

Still Waters has become a partner church, meaning we would support Safe Families as a ministry of our church. Essentially, partner church volunteers become like an extended family for moms and dads in crisis, hosting kids and providing support to families including mentoring and friendship.
